I'm not superstitious. It took me several hours to realize that today is Friday the 13th. I don't have a personal history of bad things happening to me on Friday the 13ths.
But today it seemed like every crazy person in the world was outside, and engaging in the following activities: 1.) Walking calmly in front of my car against the light, sipping coffee. 2.) Running down the wrong side of the road. A busy road where there are decent sidewalks on either side. 3.) Telling me that I am Jewish. I don't dislike Jews, I am friends with a few, I respect their religion and everything, but I am not one of them. My big nose does not make me a Jew. I'm happy that you're a Jew, loud lady who talks to Salvation Army Bell-ringers, and I think that the Jewish people have done a lot of good in the world. But the fact that you're a Jew and you think I'm one doesn't make it so. Nor does the fact that I have German ancestry make me a Jew. Heather now refers to that lady as "the Jew whisperer."
That's all.

| Writer's Block: Just another manic Monday |
[08 Nov 2009|04:21pm] |
I don't mind Mondays, I just hate how long it takes to get to Friday on Monday. Monday's are normally my easy day at work. I have about 2 hrs worth of stuff to do that needs to get done first thing in the morning. It's not hard work either, just balance challenges and maintaining equipment logs. Everything that's supposed to get done by Monday is always done before everyone leaves on Friday, so there's no as much hectic stuff as there is later in the week. Although shipping and receiving is normally dying every Monday, as for some odd reason our purchasing department seems to be hesitant to have anything delivered on a day that's not Monday.

If they wanted eggs, I'd be up for it. If they wanted me to carry, I'd laugh. I have enough trouble just having periods that make me non-homicidal... I don't know what a pregnancy would do to me. As for my partner, it'd be up to her. But I don't think she'd be game, she's a big fan of adoption.

Dear World,
Why is it my year for random health problems? Seriously, wasn't pleurisy last January and all the colds I've been getting enough for you? Why do you have to heap horrible cramps on it too? And now my current health problem (which is TMI)?
No love,
Me

One ex added me on facebook. I generally have lost track of the rest of my exs. I didn't hate them or anything, just, I've generally found that people drift apart over time if they don't make an effort to stay close. And that effort is rarely worth it with exs.

No and yes. I don't think soulmates exist, but I know I'm married to someone who is as close as I can imagine to a soulmate. Nah, paths not taken aren't worth worrying over. If you have time for regrets you're not thinking about your future enough. :-)

So I went to the Dr's office and saw a nurse about a TMI thing that's rather boring. She apparently didn't bother to read my file.
Nurse: Okay, and what are you doing for birth control? me: Being gay. a brief pause me: It's 100% effective! :-D *two thumbs up gesture*

Anyone have an opinion about us renaming Telley to Morneau? Since Mauer is well, a Twins baseball player. It'd be cute if they had themed names, but Morneau isn't very feminine.

Well, we finally got Telley.
Good news: she's adjusting well to the apartment and to Heather and me. Bad news: Mauer is not a fan. Amusing news: I learned the following things today: Telley can fit under our refrigerator and it is possible for a five pound kitten to intimidate the heck out of an twelve pound cat.
PS - she has the weirdest cry ever, and hates being left alone.
Pictures coming soon (tomorrow).

I've been doing well. I took a bit of a break from running and doing Wii fit. I did 30 minutes of Wii Fit, 20 of which were running. Monday I biked about 5 miles. I'm getting back in the habit of exercising. I was just too busy before and super exhausted after the wedding. This is going to be a good week for me at work too. I was promoted last week. You are now reading the blog of a QC Analyst I. My duties didn't change much (as we're short handed, and I was doing Analyst work before anyway), but at least I get paid more now. I kind of feel guilty, there's a wage freeze in effect, I'm the only one in my department who got a "raise" at all (someone else got promoted, but moved to salary and is only making the same as he was before). Being married has been wonderful. I don't know, it's honestly not that much different than living in sin. It's probably even less so because the state we're living in doesn't recognize it. If there were federal recognition of marriages between people of the same-sex, and MN would've recognized it, we would've changed our names. That's probably part of it, I'm still Rebecca Father'sLastName. I'm oddly looking forward to changing it when I get into law school. :-) I'll have a hyphenated name them. I just hope that we never become one of those unhappily married couple where we're always complaining about each other and mean to each other. So, yeah. That's my life.

No, not my wedding. My cousin's wedding was this weekend. It was hosted by one of the aunts who was at my wedding, so Heather and I were both invited. It was the first family event on my mom's side I brought Heather to. All my aunts and uncles on that side were there.
It went well. None of the aunts who wrote me said anything and everyone was polite to Heather. It's nice to remember that my Dad's the only one in the family who has no class.
All and all it was fun, we had to leave before the reception though, which was probably for the best.

Heather and I have found a sister for our lovable cat Mauer.
Funny thing: She's actually his sister (half-sister most likely).
Mauer's mom is a feral cat who seems to like living in a garage somewhere, and she recently had another litter of kittens (she's soon to be fixed though). I found that out when Heather and I went to the pet adoption thing at Pet Co. :-) After she is spayed (like at the end of August) we'll welcome Mauer's biological and adopted sister Telly into our family.
Life is good.

Dear family members on a letter writing campaign,
1.) Do not mail me under two weeks before the wedding with your disapproval and expect me to respond ever. 2.) Do not pretend that my parents didn't put you up to this. Don't assume I won't ever find anything out just because you can remember when I was a kid who wanted to grow up to be a Care Bear. I'm actually fairly smart these days. 3.) Do NOT tell me that my now-wife is "taking advantage" of me. You know nothing of the logistics of our financial or emotional aspects of our relationship. You've never asked. 4.) On a similar thread to the previous one, do NOT act like you have special insight into my beloved who you've never met or even talked to. 5.) Do not assume I married my wife because I felt that I could not attract a man. Also, please do not assume that my being employed is my most attractive feature. 6.) Except if we've been very close, do not assume you know anything about my past. Telling me that I apparently am gay because I feel "a void" when I can't remember a single conversation we've had in the last five years that wasn't about my dating life (which you always ask me every time we see each other) or your kids. 7.) ESPECIALLY don't send mail two days before the wedding and expect me to get it before the wedding when the wedding was out of state and my beloved and I did most of the work ourselves. (but with help from some of the lovely people on my f-list) 8.) Do NOT complain about me not going to family functions when I've only missed one/two in the last year (one I was sick with a high fever, the other I didn't make last year, and couldn't make this year b/c Heather hadn't seen her brother in years and he had military leave).
Because of your "thoughtful" letters, I'm taking a year off of family functions.
No love, Me
PS - The wedding was nice, and Heather and I are now married in six states. :-)

Dear Mom,
Just because I'm marrying my girlfriend, that doesn't mean I don't love you. It also doesn't mean that I don't think of you as my mother. It merely means I want to grow my family. Also, it is impossible for an unmarried woman to commit adultery.
Frustrated,
Me

Cable TV was the easiest. Why pay $50/month when the internet has all the shows on it for free? :-) Also, I was happy to be rid of my land-line.
